I led the Leadership Development Team which was a think tank to learn the agency's leadership gaps and fill it with state-of-the-art training concepts. This team developed a nine-day course for aspiring and new supervisors along with a second nine-day advanced course for experienced supervisors. The model was created to teach and stretch the abilities of all GBI leaders to include the agents, scientists, and administrative personnel.

I lead a team of 30 motivated operators to safely execute high risk operations in comprising environments. A proper risk and threat assessment leads to a solid operational plan that must be concisely communicated to the team, so each member understands everyone’s’ job to accomplish the mission. Risk management is critical for me prior to approving the operation to ensure the safety of the public and the team. Each member must display real time threat assessments and good decision-making skills as they encounter the public. Making a split-second decision to act or de-escalate starts in training. I create innovative training that drives good eye discipline, muscle memory and decision-making skills that go beyond the conventional best practice of tactical training.

Command staff position that allows me to serve eight GBI offices and 150 employees. My role is to get them what they need to be successful. This must be balanced with the needs of the entire agency. I work with a team of leaders to find ways to strike this balance and overcome obstacles presented with limited resources. I must also strike a balance between what is needed today and what the agency needs will be tomorrow and beyond to ensure continued success. I manage the $5.8M grant budget to pay for innovative strategic needs and training. I provide guidance and help manage the division $67M budget. I also work with teams to create new paths not previously explored. I have championed and established new programs to combat violent gangs, the opioid overdose epidemic, and re-established our criminal profiling unit. I also create business partnerships to leverage technology to work for us, allowing agents to get back to the streets where they are needed to solve complex criminal investigations.

As the senior member of an elite team, I led 25 certified bomb technicians. Risk and threat assessments are the most critical skill set of this job. Twenty years of experience in asking the right questions and assessment of the known and unknown threats, along with the on-scene site analysis to create the correct tactics, techniques, and procedures to safely resolve the problem. Mental strengthen and focus are paramount. Complacency kills. If the threat does not hurt you, the tool deployed to mitigate it, will. Formal and informal self-training are requirements to be successful.

I led a multi-jurisdictional team that built this office from the ground up. This was the most rewarding job of my career. With limited funding and resources, we accomplished the impossible through relationships and grit to better serve our communities. I leveraged existing relationships to secure funding to renovate office space and infrastructure needs. I created a culture that invested in our people and got them the resources to be successful. As our people grew and experienced success, the office reaped the benefits. Because of our team’s productivity, each year the office grew. Our grant funds grew from $150k to $500k. Our area of responsibility grew from serving 7 counties to serving 26 counties. Our staff grew from 15 to 28. Our board of directors grew from 7 to 16 members. The success of the office is a direct result of great communication within the team, along with building a team that had a common goal to make our communities a safer place to live.As a SAC, I was the lead course evaluator and instructor for two critical skills GBI programs. I created a team to build reality-based training for our Interview & Interrogation and Homicide Investigation program.

I was intentional to be a great follower to learn how to lead agents who are operating daily in crisis environments.

I served the public face to face in their worse moments. Earning the trust of people whom humanity has broken in indescribable ways. I worked as an undercover agent earning the trust of criminals to disrupt their criminal enterprise from the inside.

I attended autopsies and acted as a liaison between the pathologists and criminal investigators.

I worked with a multi-disciplinary team to create effective and safe strategies to combat the opioid epidemic that has affected people across every boundary of society.
