Working within a supermarket has taught me how to handle working in a very demanding environment. Due to the impacts of COVID-19 online food orders have risen and this has resulted in more orders from customers. Therefore, we must complete these quickly and efficiently in order to remain on target with pick rates. Therefore, I had to learn my way around the store very quickly in order to pick my orders at the target speed so me and my team did not fall behind. Furthermore, a requirement within my role is also providing help and assistance to customers. If a customer is in need, I always do my best to stop and help them regardless of the task I am currently doing. I always serve them with a positive, happy attitude and never fail to solve their problem.

Joining the marketing team for the Scottish charity MCR pathways has helped me use the marketing skills I have learned at university and apply them successfully. For almost 3 years I have worked as a waitress in the Tudor Hotel. This role has provided me with necessary skills which will be essential for employment roles in the future. Firstly, I have gained the ability to handle working under pressure. Working in a restaurant is a very fast paced environment, where focussing on the task at hand is essential in order to provide excellent customer service. This requires great agility, being able to adapt rapidly to new changes within the environment to ensure the restaurant runs smoothly. Communication is a key skill which I have gained from this job role. This is an essential skill as dealing with criticism is a part of life involved within any job role, therefore it is important to develop this.
