My education at Rose-Hulman started out being primarily focused on the hardware side of computer engineering, but as I took classes and got a good feel for it, I found myself gravitating more and more toward the software side of things. I found that I just enjoyed it more. Thankfully, I was able to get a lot of experience while still staying the computer engineer discipline.During my graduate school, I started working as a web developer for the Rose-Hulman Homework Hotline, and that experience really showed me that I wanted to get into full software development. Things were pretty new to me as I progressed through the major web redesign I was working on for the Hotline, but my previous programming experience allowed me to pick it up pretty quickly. In doing that project and other graduate school projects that involved embedded programming, I was able to improve my programming skills substantially.After I graduated with my Master of Electrical and Computer Engineering degree from Rose-Hulman, I accepted a position of Software Engineer I at Blackbaud Inc.'s Indianapolis office. We develop a sophisticated SAAS based donor management software there. My skills have continued to grow, and I was promoted to Software Engineer II in April 2012.
