About Mathew Jacobson
Grantmaking, strategic planning, campaigning, communications, public opinion research, and government and corporate relations at the intersection of conservation, Indigenous rights, social justice and sustainable livelihoods. I have worked in senior positions with campaigning and grantmaking organizations including the Pew Charitable Trusts, MoveOn.org, and Greenpeace, nationally and internationally for nearly 20 years. I have a proven record achieving goals deemed impossible by bridging innovative strategic leadership with powerful coalition building, team building, grants management, and field mobilization. After several years as a Forest Ranger and Grassroots Campaigner, (many of which were supported by working as a chef) I joined The Pew Charitable Trusts where I amassed a string of historic successes over seventeen years, including:• Turning the notoriously rancorous forest protection movement into what the Sacramento Bee called a "carefully conducted choir" as Field Director for the Heritage Forests Campaign.• Building & leading a coalition campaign in another country, culture, and language, securing protection policies for an area in Quebec more than twice the size of the US National Park System. • Gaining the trust of a broad cross-section of leaders in rural Northern Manitoba - from Indigenous chiefs to mayors, chambers of commerce, industry, and conservationists - to build a successful coalition for the sustainable development of the Boreal.• Working with Indigenous leaders from around the world to change the rules governing UNESCO's World Heritage Program to respect the rights of indigenous peoples, and to ascribe value to the interrelationship between nature and culture.Upon leaving Pew, I joined McAllister Opinion Research and work with the Canadian Council for International Cooperation on a Gates Foundation-funded nationwide coalition campaign. My success is based on coalescing and empowering diverse groups - Indigenous leaders, industry, grassroots activists & heads of state - to change history.
Listed skills include Grassroots Organizing, Public Relations, Policy Analysis, Public Speaking, and 30 others.
