As the assistant editor, I worked with the Editor in Chief to manage all of the different teams within Straylight--fiction, poetry, art/layout, and web--in order to ensure cohesion within the organization. This also involved managing on-campus events, going over edits made by members of each team, and ensuring that correspondences were being handled smoothly.

Lead fiction editor meant that I handled all of the roles involved in the associate fiction editor role, as well as the divvying out of tasks to the associate fiction editors I managed. This meant parsing through submissions and creating a fair method of dispersing tasks. I also taught each member how to edit, performed assessments on their edits, and instructed them on how to interact with authors in a quick and professional manner.

As an Associate Fiction Editor, I worked on a team of four to correspond with authors who had submitted fiction for publication. This involved vetting pieces for quality and tone, managing acceptances and rejections, editing in compliance with the Chicago Manual of Style, and coordinating with the rest of the Straylight team to ensure that the magazine for that semester went out on time.

I also helped introduce new content and restart existing columns, like our "Mystery Box" articles, capsule reviews, and "Deconstructioncraft," a semi-regular feature focused on analyzing the video game industry from an academic perspective.
