The NIAC is a department-level council, comprised of a small cadre of uniformed Navy and Marine Corps personnel selected annually to serve as Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV) Innovation Advisors. The NIAC considers, develops, and accelerates innovative concepts for presentation to the SECNAV and other Department of the Navy (DON) senior leaders, with recommendations to synchronize senior leadership, facilitate the flow of resources, streamline policy, and remove roadblocks that hinder innovation. The NIAC builds and maintains an effective network of military, government, academic, and private sector experts to continually assess future operational and technological environments and identify areas of opportunity for the DON.
