About Michael Stark
I trained in Biochemistry at the University of Leicester, working on bacterial ribosomes and continuing this theme through a postdoctoral position with Albert Dahlberg at Brown University in the USA. I began working with yeast in 1983 at the Leicester Biocentre, establishing my own group at Dundee in 1987 to study aspects of yeast cell growth and division and becoming a Professor in 2001, choosing in 2015 to retire early. My career as an academic has given me a wide variety of experience in life sciences research, teaching and learning, raising funding for research, project management, scientific publishing and communication. While not actively looking for another post, I am always up for a challenge and happy to consider any opportunities that may arise.

CurrentAlthough retired now, I continue to maintain an association with the School of Life Sciences at the University of Dundee through my emeritus position. I have active collaborations with a number of research groups and I continue to provide input to the degree programmes of other Universities as an external examiner.

Professor Of Yeast Molecular Biology
My research group investigated the regulation of growth and division using yeast cells as a model system. Early projects focussed on an essential role of calmodulin at the spindle pole body (SPB) and on the roles and regulation of yeast protein phosphatases, principally PP1 and PP2A. Recent work has focussed on the regulation of role of Ipl1 (Aurora B).
