Working within the Technology Group, this externally facing role focuses on looking at emerging markets in technology that can be utilised and developed in order to enable our business to not only remain competitive, but to also excel in the marketplace.The role is essentially a combination of market research, technical understanding and relationship development.Key Areas:Building a coherent market view Market Sizing, Growth, Needs & PlayersAssessment of Technology drivers Identifying emerging technologies, associated threats & opportunities Reviewing academic research to maintain cutting edgeExternal engagement and maintaining company visibility Discussing possibilities with other businesses, academic groups and research bodies Attending seminars, conferences and trade shows to maintain market perspectiveBuilding business cases Providing suitable justification to Directors & staff within the business groups and external funding bodies (DTI/TSB)

This role focused on the use of five commercial engineering packages. My responsibilities included the analysis of new product designs, design improvement and ongoing engineering support. Using an internal consultancy approach, I carried out over 100 projects. All aspects of the project were incorporated within the role: Customer liaison, project costing, performing the analysis, feedback of results & formal reporting. Core Activities:ANSYS:• Non Linear Structural and thermal modeling• Electrostatic, Modal/harmonic & Dynamics performed when required. • Presented at UK conference & Case study in Industrial Technology magazine.Meshing:• ANSYS internal mesher• CFD Meshing – Gambit & ICEM CFDFluent:• Thermal management and product cooling. • Advanced: Free surface modeling & investigations into phase change.Pro-Engineer:• Geometry Creation/Design & modification of geometry for efficient analysis

This role was focused on e2v's range of Marine Magnetrons, these are used in commercial radar systems in the Marine & Aerospace sectors.The predominant focus was on day-to-day production issues often encompassing short term, high priority investigations leading to production solutions being implemented.
