I worked at Sainsbury's Brighton Supermarket in a Customer Service Assistant role while studying for my MSc in Brighton, UK. I was later promoted & transferred to London, UK as a Customer Service Coordinator on completing my MSc. I worked around the clock on a shift system including both night and day hours.During the day my responsibilities included; ensuring product availability by coordinating daily stock checking sweeps using the company EPR system, assisting customers during their shop, coordinating the company’s systems in order to ensure the store met both its QMS & FSMS goals were and coordinating quarterly audits of these systems to ensure they were viable.During the night my responsibilities include; coordinating product replenishment and rotation, coordinating the housekeeping routines within the store, receiving & inspecting the grocery deliveries and ensuring the company’s ISO 22000 standards were adhered to and systems followed.This opportunity taught me the value of time management, self-sacrifice and good team coordination as the role being shift oriented meant having to move weekly working hours around in order to assist colleagues and the team when necessary. I also underwent training to see that I was proficient in understanding & implementing the company’s Food Safety & Quality Management Systems.

As part of the MSc studies at Sussex University, I undertook 15 months of lab based research done in part at an industrial lab and an academic lab. I was responsible for managing my time between my lab research, my other course requirements and my part time job during the project’s duration. The project required that I work independently, which taught me a lot about running a lab, adhering to GMP and GLP as well as working under pressure towards strict deadline. I had to use my own initiative and ability to critically analyse situations in order to overcome any obstacles I encountered. The project required me to create weekly reports and a final dissertation which strengthened my written communication skills and proficiency with basic office applications like Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe Photoshop. Weekly update presentations also held within my lab helped build my presentation and verbal communication skills and confidence.
