After finalisation of his Master’s degree in Business Economics at the University of Groningen, Matthijs de Boer started working with KPMG in September 1997. In 2005 he finished the postgraduate Accountants course at the University of Amsterdam to become a member of the Netherlands’ Institute of Registered Accountants (Dutch CPA). Matthijs worked at KPMG for 13 years providing assurance and advisory services to a variety of clients in the financial services sector. His expertise sits in several areas, including derivatives and hedge accounting, insurance, pensions and similar topics under International Financial Reporting Standards. In 2010 he moved to the international part of Rabobank where he started as senior business controller in Global Financial Markets. He quickly widened his scope of attention. Since 2017 he is as Manager in Control responsible for internal and external reporting, Data Quality and the Risk and Control Framework of the international Wholesale, Rural and Retail part of Rabobank.In his work Matthijs aims to find the optimal balance between adhering to internal and external requirements, leveraging on existing structures and creating value for the organisation. His ambition is to use internal resources optimally for change projects to create maximum internal acceptance. Missing short term targets is in his view acceptable if the long term goals are met. Matthijs has extensive knowledge in External Reporting with in-depth knowledge of IFRS 9 and IFRS 16. Key projects that he has worked on in the past years are Data Quality, BCBS 239, Risk and Control Framework and specifically linking these into the business as usual.
