My nonprofit leadership career spans over four decades. Today, I’m back to where it all began—helping men and women overcome substance use disorders as Chief Operating Officer at Healing House, Missouri’s largest recovery housing provider. Before joining Healing House in January 2020, I served for three years as Executive Director of Footprints in Kansas City, Missouri. Footprints provides an outpatient treatment program, a recovery community center, transitional housing for homeless veterans, and a recovery residence for men.In 2015, I joined the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in Washington, D.C., as manager of the ConnectHome program. The initiative worked to bridge the digital divide for 30,000 low-income families by providing internet connectivity, computer equipment, and digital literacy training..In 2011, I co-founded Connecting for Good (now known as PCs for People) in Kansas City, Kansas. The organization helped close the digital divide by offering affordable internet, community technology centers, low-cost refurbished PCs, and free digital life skills classes for over 10,000 low-income families. In 1995, I founded City Vision University, an accredited online institution. As Chief Academic Officer, I led curriculum development, faculty recruitment, and efforts to secure accreditation, federal student aid, and oversaw the development of an undergraduate degree program in Addiction Studies. I still serve as an adjunct professor. For 17 years, I served as Director of Education for the Association of Gospel Rescue Missions (now CityGate Network), a network of 300 inner-city missions dedicated to serving the homeless and addicted. I led their certification program, provided consultation on recovery programs, and managed training initiatives for nonprofit leaders. In 1980, I founded the New Creation Center, a licensed residential treatment facility for men struggling with chemical dependency. I directed the center for ten years, providing residential treatment and outpatient counseling. I also worked closely with outreach programs, helping individuals on the streets access services and break free from addiction. My leadership style, identified as ENTJ on the Myers-Briggs Personality Type Indicator, is strategic and goal-oriented. My Gallup CliftonStrengths profile highlights: Strategic, Woo, Communication, Individualization, and Achiever.
