2023 brought a significant growth for Wave Films. One of the highlights include a coalition with two other companies with the goal of producing an ambitious number of films over the course of just a few years. This exciting new project required a person specifically dedicated to coordinate all development efforts – here’s where my new role was born 🤩My responsibilities as Development Coordinator include:· 💼 ManagerialAs a part of a team with members distributed over 5 different countries, it has been my responsibility to orchestrate remote meetings, maintain clear communication across various teams, and coordinate all development efforts for various simultaneous projects. · 📝 Script consultantI am a creative storyteller at my core. In this new role, I maintain my previous responsibilities as a collaborator with multiple writers to help them improve their screenplay, ensuring a balance between creativity and marketability. This required research skills that allowed me to develop a deeper understanding of various cultures, themes, and genres.· 📊 Marketability AssessmentAccording to Statista, the annual revenue of the film industry is close to 77 billion USD. To keep up with the competition, it is crucial to have a solid marketing campaign that ensures the success of each film. Part of my responsibilities as a development coordinator include arranging focus groups and creative brainstorming sessions that set the foundation for the potential marketing campaign that will be launched once a determined film is ready to be released. The skills I aquired:Each role has brought its unique set of challenges. Being a development coordinator has allowed me to work on my managerial skills, handling and updating large databases and keeping track of multiple projects that are being developed simultaneously.

Being a key member of the Wave Films’ team allowed me to evolve from an internship into a full-time role. This new position came with new challenges and new opportunities to keep learning new skills while continuing to refine my abilities as a script analyst and reader. Here are some of my responsibilities:·📝 Script evaluation, quality control and Marketability AssessmentContinuing with my duties as a script analyst and reader, I carried on creating coverages to assess the different components of nearly 800 scripts. ·📑 Script ConsultantAs a development associate it was my responsibility to get in touch with the writers of the scripts that were shortlisted as potential Wave Films projects. To follow a writer’s room approach, me and Wave Films’ head director and producer Jerry Ködding collaborated closely with multiple writers to help them improve their screenplay, ensuring a balance between creativity and marketability. This required research skills that allowed me to develop a deeper understanding of various cultures, themes, and genres.·🗂️ Administrative Assisted in the creation and refinement of project pitch decks, contributing to successful presentations that attracted the attention of financers and distributors such as Amazon Prime Philippines. In addition, I was also able to collaborate with the social media team to create posts that increased our Instagram and Facebook presence.The skills I acquired:Getting into the process of development allowed me to experience the process of what goes beyond the script. Understanding what was expected of a script to be able to compete with its comps allowed me to get into the fundamentals of narrative design: How can we turn this script into a fully emotional experience for the audience? In addition, I was able to refine my effective communication skills, get an understanding of the principles of graphic design. More importantly, I got the privilege of collaborating with incredibly talented creatives.

My journey in the film industry began as a Development Intern at Wave Films – a Singapore-based production company with operations all over Southeast Asia. A company as acclaimed as Wave Films receives numerous script submissions on a regular basis, but not all of them align with the organization’s vision. My role as an intern included -but was not limited to- the work of a script reader and analyst. Being a script reader and analyst meant being a gatekeeper for Wave Films. My work was key to the process of making informed decisions about which projects should be selected for development, and eventually, production; this was, and still remains, to be crucial for the company’s overall success in such a competitive and ever-changing industry. My responsibilities included: ·📝 Script evaluation and quality control During my time as an intern, I provided over 300 extensive script coverages that included a summary and evaluation of different components such as plot, characterizations, themes, pacing and overall quality of the script, story, and writer. On these coverages I also provided constructive feedback to enhance the screenplays and ideas as to how it could be adapted to align with the company’s values, vision, and budget constraints. ·📊 Marketability AssessmentFilm is an extremely competitive industry; It is crucial to stay up to date with the global trends and the target audience’s preferences. My script coverages included an assessment of the project’s marketability and potential to attract distributors and financiers. The skills I acquired:Being surrounded by so many stories honed my skills in understanding the craft of storytelling, character development, narrative structure, and marketability potential. In addition, I was also able to get experience working with a multicultural team located all over the world, which enriched my professional journey and provided me with some of the practical skills needed for success in this fascinating field.

Tec de Monterrey is one of the most prestigious universities in Latin America; it has 30 campuses across Mexico and has been internationally recognized by organizations such as the QS World University Rankings. For such a large institution, it is crucial to have an engaged and united community. As a media production intern, I was a part of the team responsible of shaping the narrative of our academic community. We created content for the TVs located in public spaces across campuses; These screens are strategically placed in common areas to disseminate important institutional information to the campus community. My responsibilities included:·👥 Editorial I participated in brainstorming sessions to create new content, including a campaign to remind the community of the safety procedures to follow when the in-presence classes resumed after the Covid-19 pandemic. ·📖 ScriptwritingThe short script I created included a mix of student's achievements, announces, and inspirational messages intended to improve the students' wellbeing. As a scriptwriter, I made sure that the scripts not only informed the audience, but also resonated with their values and made them feel a part of the community. ·🎬 Video productionI created short videos using licensed-content libraries and institutional material.·🗓️ Strategic Programming ManagementI ensured that the content created was properly broadcasted across all campuses’ TVs. It was my responsibility to create on a weekly basis a programing schedule for all institutional videos, ensuring a seamless experience that maximized the reach and impact of our videos.This experience enriched my skills in scriptwriting, video editing, media curation, conceptualization, and strategic planning for effective communication. It also provided valuable experience as a member of a multi-disciplinary team. Together we witnessed the impact of our work as it helped our university forter a sense of unity and engagement within the community.
