I am currently working in the lab of Dr. Tony Tsai using zebrafish as a model to elucidate the role of classical cadherins and protocadherins in early spinal cord patterning and development– specifically with regard to their potential to modulate morphogen signaling gradients and influence cell fate determination.In August 2021, I joined the inaugural cohort of Developmental Biology & Regenerative Medicine PostBaccalaureate Scholars. We have had the opportunity to participate in fantastic tutorials and workshops centering around everything from making scientific figures to the basics of proteomics.

Following my graduation from Smith College, I was hired as a full time research technician to continue the work on my undergraduate thesis project in the lab of Dr. Michael Barresi.

I spent two years working as an undergraduate researcher in Dr. Michael Barresi’s neurodevelopmental biology research lab investigating the role of the novel protein Meteorin and its paralog, Meteorin-like. Using zebrafish as our model system, we sought to elucidate the role of these two gene products in radial glial differentiation and proliferation during early central nervous system development. By combining various techniques such as immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization and transgenic reporter lines with different knockown/knockout strategies such as CRSIPR-Cas9 and morpholinos I was able to characterize loss-of-function phenotypes at various levels. In my senior year, I led the Disease Modeling team of undergraduate students and completed my honors thesis project, which was awarded the distinction of highest honors. During this time, I learned the invaluable skill of time management as I balanced competing as a two-sport varsity athlete, a full course load of upper level classes and an average of 20-30 hours spent in the lab per week.

In this position, I worked as an assistant to the administrative assistant in the dining services office. I am responsible for answering phone calls, directing visitors appropriately, and assisting with office projects.

This summer I spent 4 works working closely with the next generation of young women interested in STEM at Smith College through the Summer Science and Engineering Program. I spent the first 2 weeks of the program as a residential intern where I was responsible for coordinating activities for the students with my coworkers and making sure that all students were staying connected to their peers after class time. During the second half of the program, I was privileged to spend my days in the classroom with these bright students as a teaching assistant for a class called "Fighting Infections Using Soil Bacteria" which is essentially a crash-course in microbiology. My responsibilities included completing prep work for the day's lab work as well as overseeing the classroom during lecture and being available for questions and help with assignments.

I started at Hornstra Farms as a season ice cream scooper, and over the years have transitioned to a lead role within the ice cream bar and farm store. My responsibilities include maintaining an organized and stocked store front in a fast-paced environment, ensuring a satisfactory shopping experience for all guests and performing all duties associated with opening and/or closing. During my time at Hornstra Farms, I have informally been recognized by my managers for professionalism while interacting with both customers and other staff members.

During the time that I worked for the Scituate Recreation Center, I was a camp counselor for a variety of different sports camps and clinics. During the past three summers, I have worked at a field hockey clinic and a soccer camp. While working at these camps, my responsibilities included developing activities and games for children to participate in during camp sessions each day, evaluating and reporting to supervisors on the athletic skills of children after the conclusion of week-long camp sessions, educating players on the play and rules of both soccer and field hockey, and demonstrating skills and activities to camp participants. This position was a great experience that allowed me to develop stronger leadership, communication, and teaching skills.
