About Mo Al-Akayshee
What a strange time to be alive! I’ve managed to experience the “real” world (very briefly) before mobiles took over, although nowadays you’ll rarely see me without one and other gadgets. My parents came to the UK to study and ended up staying when things back home turned a little sour. Fast forward a few years and I was born; my dad is also an electrical engineer and really sparked my interest in electronics when taking me to science museums and we’d put together circuits. I remember struggling to understand it all, but seeing those bulbs light up was really fascinating at that young age. I spent most of my life residing in the south-west of England, but hopped around the country frequently due to my dads work commitments and being a small family. Love meeting new people, and find everyone has an interesting background in one way or another – we’re all so different! Growing up I was a little plump, but that just meant I got to enjoy being a prop in rugby a lot more. Never thought it was possible to achieve a physique that would allow me to compete on a bodybuilding stage, but that’s all changing. It’s been a childhood dream to compete in a men’s physique show, which I hope to do in the very near future! I’ve been lucky to meet some inspiring people in my 20s working across the power electronics field, through research and industry. I was fortunate enough to live abroad and experience different cultures, the experiences and stories you hear from people really made me reevaluate my own life choices which I am grateful for. Working with the NHS during the pandemic really opened my eyes to how great and compassionate some individuals can be, really going above and beyond – it’s not only a job but a lifestyle where people genuinely enjoyed helping others. I’ve tried to adopt this philosophy myself, and find enjoyment in everything I do.In the more recent years I’ve become more open to spirituality and karma. I believe that for our own mental wellbeing we should be kind to others and lend a helping hand where possible! Although having the skillset to work as an individual is good, I also feel that it’s good to use the experiences of others to aid us in making decisions and to accept help when it’s offered. I feel I’ve come a long way being an only child and growing up relatively independent, it’s something I enjoy improving on. It also gives me an excuse to have a chat with people, often throughout my workday! I like to jibber jabber about anything gym, diet or power electronics related. May also “jibber jabber about jibber jabber.”

Co-Founder & Host
Current
Power Applications Engineer
CurrentA very fulfilling role, with a wide scope of work. I primarily offer high levels of technical support for the power supply division. I also provide sales support, analysing customer requirements and provide a range of solutions. Preparing cost/delivery quotations for each solution and reviewing the pros/cons of each with the end user. Liaise with global manufacturers, designers, development, and end-user teams to improve customer experience and project deliverables. Managing accounts and acquiring new customers for the power division. Development and evaluation of dashboards, programs, GUIs for digitally controlled power supplies.Involved in the development of marketing material, and website content. Also support the company’s exhibitions and shows. Host a podcast series around power conversion, explaining the technology and latest advancements in the field.
Information Governance Officer
I worked with several departments and disciplines through contracted and volunteer work, however I always returned to my original placement as an information governance officer. I was lucky to work with a great team, and the work was very interesting.I was the main point of contact for information requests from the public, this included solicitors, patients, companies and various other institutions. Some information requests were large/complex and I used project management techniques to ensure all aspects of the request were responded to in accordance to the relevant acts and guidelines.I also managed training for new members of staff joining the team, and created SOPs (standard operating procedure) documents.
Product Engineer
After graduating I joined Littelfuse as a Product Engineer responsible for the Diode product line. I was also introduced to Lean Six Sigma and underwent green belt training. I really appreciate the training received, as it improved my skills as an engineer and allowed me to gain a new perspective on problem solving.I was involved in all parts of the production process, and implemented several changes to improve yields for diodes. Some projects were difficult, however gathering the knowledge of operators, engineers and designers allowed the projects to gain traction. I enjoyed analysing data and setting up experiments to verify theories. I was able to trace back several yield issues back to supplier materials, and on separate occasions to our processes. Many of the processes used to manufacture diodes are also used to manufacture thyristors, so I often contributed to other projects.A highlight of my time here is arranging the weekly internal football match, and social events.
Process Engineer
My first foray into the industrial world! Started as mandatory 1 week work experience, that ended up lasting 10 years. My primary role was to reduce operating costs and waste in the semiconductor manufacturing process. Sometimes this was a relatively simple task with a big impact on operating costs, such as reviewing consumable usage across the entire factory. On other occasions it got more technical, and involved improving yields by reducing process variation. A particularly interesting project for me was improving doping uniformity within a batch. Analysing data from processes allowed me to identify when equipment was starting to behave abnormally and implement preventative maintenance instead of reacting to a yield problem further down the line.
