Fashion Cloud is a digital content exchange platform for the fashion industry. We work with fashion brands and retailers enabling the exchange of marketing material, product photos, and product data via our online platform or via direct integration with the retailers' software systems.During my time at Fashion Cloud, I was part of the Data Team. Most of the code I wrote was in TypeScript. In various parts of the system, we used MongoDB and Postgres as our data stores. We also used Elasticsearch as the search engine for the platform. We operated our infrastructure on AWS and used services such as EventBridge, SQS, SNS, S3, RDS, and StepFunctions, just to name a few. We didn't have a dedicated DevOps/Infrastructure team, so each team within the company was responsible for deploying, operating, and maintaining its own infrastructure. Some of my responsibilities and tasks were:• Maintained and developed Fashion Cloud's data-importing infrastructure and tooling• Researched, designed, prototyped, and implemented solutions to resolve scalability, latency, and storage issues• Deployed services on AWS using CloudFormation and AWS CDK• Worked with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Elasticsearch• Debugged, triaged, and fixed issues• Coordinated with other teams that rely on services provided by the Data Team• Performed code reviews• Worked closely with the product team• Advocated for more focus on writing more tests and test first development
