Niger

As Head of Mission for OCHA in Niger, I coordinate responses to the humanitarian crisis, assisting approximately 4.3 million beneficiaries. I reinforce government capacity in emergency preparedness, planning, response, and recovery, while strengthening contingency planning and disaster preparedness. My role involve integrating humanitarian activities into development frameworks such as UNDAF and RCP, and facilitating CERF funding processes. I coordinate humanitarian activities of international NGOs and the UN, engaging in discussions and negotiations with local authorities on humanitarian issues. Advocacy for the protection of vulnerable populations, including refugees and IDPs, was a key focus. I conduct humanitarian needs assessment missions, manage information with donors and the government, and report to headquarters. Additionally, I oversee office staff and budget management, develop strategic and orientation documents, and lead disaster risk reduction activities with relevant stakeholders. My contributions also extend to stabilization strategies and activities for the Lake Chad Basin region.

Cameroon

As Head of Mission for OCHA in Cameroon, I led efforts to coordinate responses to the humanitarian crisis, assisting around 3 million beneficiaries with unwavering commitment. I empowered government capacities in emergency preparedness, planning, response, and recovery, and fortified contingency planning and disaster preparedness to ensure resilient communities. My role involved seamlessly integrating humanitarian activities into development frameworks like UNDAF and RCP, and streamlining CERF funding processes. By harmonizing the efforts of international NGOs and the UN, and engaging in critical discussions and negotiations with local authorities, I advocated passionately for the protection of vulnerable populations, including refugees and IDPs. Conducting humanitarian needs assessment missions and managing vital information flows with donors, the government, and headquarters were key components of my mission. I ensured efficient office staff and budget management, and developed strategic and orientation documents to guide our initiatives. Leading disaster risk reduction activities with relevant stakeholders and contributing to stabilization strategies for the Lake Chad Basin region, I strived to foster hope, resilience, and sustainable development in Cameroon.

Côte D'Ivoire

As Head of Mission for OCHA in Côte d'Ivoire, I led and coordinated responses to a range of humanitarian crises, including floods, displacement, epidemics, and refugee situations. I provided expert technical advice to the DSRSG/RC/HC and the Minister of Solidarity on humanitarian issues, ensuring informed decision-making. My role involved conducting joint assessment and monitoring missions in the field, developing strategic planning documents, and leading crisis preparedness and recovery actions. I developed contingency planning documents for conflict, elections, and Ebola, and established an early warning system for disasters. Producing information and advocacy tools on humanitarian issues and mobilizing resources for humanitarian actors and the office were key aspects of my mission. I managed the office and sub-offices, led the humanitarian transition in Côte d'Ivoire, and championed innovation and the use of new technology in preparedness and response to natural disasters.

Zimbabwe

As Head of Mission for OCHA in Zimbabwe, I coordinated responses to diverse humanitarian issues, including droughts, floods, and displacement linked to land reform. I developed and implemented plans for transitioning from humanitarian aid to recovery and development, integrating these efforts into the ZUNDAF. Strengthening contingency planning and disaster preparedness activities was a key focus, along with monitoring humanitarian appeal documents and coordinating resource mobilization efforts. I facilitated CERF funding processes, managed the in-country Emergency Relief Funds (ERF), and coordinated humanitarian activities among international NGOs and UN agencies. Leading humanitarian advocacy initiatives with local authorities, protecting vulnerable populations (such as survivors of SGBV, migrants, refugees, children, and IDPs), and conducting needs assessment missions were central to my role.

Niger

As Head of Mission for OCHA in Niger, I coordinated responses to a range of humanitarian crises, including droughts, floods, locust invasions, disease outbreaks, and issues involving refugees, migrants, IDPs, and conflict and terrorist threats. I strengthened contingency planning and disaster preparedness with partners, authorities, and ministries, and implemented the humanitarian reform agenda by establishing clusters, an inter-clusters forum, and the humanitarian country team, while also strengthening funding mechanisms. I developed and facilitated the first CAP process in Niger and coordinated CERF funding for UN agencies. My role involved identifying and addressing early recovery needs, coordinating activities of over 60 international NGOs and 11 UN agencies across various sectors, and negotiating with formal Tuareg rebels for better access and safe implementation of humanitarian activities in remote northern areas. I conducted and coordinated humanitarian needs assessment missions, served as an interface on security matters between the government, DSS, and NGOs, and managed all aspects of the office, including finance, administration, human resources, logistics, and security. Additionally, I oversaw humanitarian information management in Niger.

South Kivu, Democratic Republic Of The Congo

As Head of Mission for OCHA in South Kivu province, DRC, I coordinated humanitarian responses to crises related to conflicts and natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes, and droughts. I negotiated access and protection for aid workers with various armed groups, developed the cluster approach, and implemented a pooled fund mechanism managing $30-40 million annually. My role involved identifying and addressing early recovery needs, coordinating activities of 30 international NGOs and 9 UN agencies, and advocating for the protection of vulnerable populations and increased access to remote areas. I led and coordinated humanitarian needs assessment missions, and prepared daily, weekly, and monthly reports in English and French. Additionally, I developed contingency plans, action plans, and updated the Consolidated Appeal Process (CAP). I supervised and managed four sub-offices with around 20 staff, including international personnel, and performed duties as the deputy area security coordinator for South Kivu province.

City Of Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa

As Humanitarian Affairs Office Team Leader, I provided technical assistance to the South African government in managing the humanitarian crisis following xenophobic attacks. I acted as an interface between the government and IDPs, refugees, and asylum seekers, and assisted in assessing the needs of 70,000 IDPs. I advised the government on addressing protection and other needs of IDPs, represented OCHA and the UN family in meetings, and advocated for the protection of IDPs. My role also involved writing daily and weekly reports for the head office in Johannesburg, developing information management tools, and leading and managing the OCHA team in Cape Town.

Bunia, Ituri, Democratic Republic Of The Congo

As Head of Office, I coordinated the activities of 23 international NGOs and 7 UN agencies, including UNICEF, UNDP, WHO, FAO, UNHCR, and WFP, focusing on sectors such as health, nutrition, food security, child protection, education, sexual violence, and DDR. I negotiated with armed group leaders and local authorities on access and protection issues, led and coordinated humanitarian needs assessment missions, and assumed the duties of Field Security Officer when necessary. My role involved writing daily, weekly, and monthly reports in English and French, developing contingency plans, updating action plans, and overseeing the Consolidated Appeal Process (CAP). I coordinated responses to crises, such as epidemics and assistance to IDPs, and worked closely with the peacekeeping operation (MONUC) on security, access, and protection issues.

Maniema, Democratic Republic Of The Congo

As Humanitarian Affairs Officer, I coordinated the activities of 5 international NGOs and numerous local NGOs across sectors including health, nutrition, food security, child protection, and education. I engaged in discussions with local authorities and armed group leaders to address access and protection issues, conducted and coordinated humanitarian needs assessment missions, and led humanitarian responses in crisis situations. Collaborating closely with the peacekeeping mission (MONUC), I addressed access, protection, and logistical challenges. I also ensured the duties of the Field Security Officer, focusing on safety and security measures. Additionally, I worked on humanitarian aspects related to the Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration (DDR) process and maintained regular reporting on operational activities.

Democratic Republic Of The Congo

As Health Project Manager at CARE International in DRC, I spearheaded the establishment and development of CARE's new office and health programs, focusing on identifying and implementing new program areas for development. I defined CARE's health strategy, authored new health projects spanning primary health, maternal and child health, and HIV/AIDS initiatives, and represented CARE in official meetings on health and other pertinent issues. My role included coordinating CARE's health activities with government bodies, international NGOs, and UN agencies, and maintaining strong relationships with key donors such as ECHO, OFDA, UNICEF, UNDP, and USAID to ensure robust funding and support for health initiatives in the region.

As Country Representative for Children's AIDS Direct (CAD) in Burundi, I defined CAD policies and program orientations, focusing on health and nutrition initiatives such as curative health, maternal and child health, and community health, alongside supplementary feeding programs. I developed and managed comprehensive projects in health, nutrition, agriculture, and child protection, while establishing and nurturing relationships with donors like ECHO, OFDA, UNICEF, and UNDP. I maintained collaborative partnerships with UN agencies, national and international NGOs, and liaised with headquarters in the UK to ensure alignment with organizational goals and strategies. My responsibilities included overseeing health and nutrition programs, managing budgets, conducting monitoring and evaluation activities, and preparing reports and proposals to support sustainable development efforts in Burundi.
