Here’s just a taste of what kept me jazzed during my tenure there: Penning technical write-ups that sparked curiosity rather than inducing snoozefests, accompanying our Engineering Geologist on thrilling quests to discover secret underground goldmine(r, well—geology) situations; partnering with RE’s to measure construction needs precisely; whipping up insanely awesome tender specifications, scopes of work, and bill of quantities – enough to give any pro engineer some serious FOMO; diving deep into research about enhancing safety and efficiency for rural routes since they deserve love too; embarking on high-energy expeditions called visual condition surveys to examine gravel road vitality and ensure SA Pavement Management System compliance; managing project supplies like nobody’s business – yep, from raw materials to gear, I managed it all with flaircrafting stunningly practical yet pleasing design concepts; simplifying complex tech jargon by authoring crystal-clear technical specifications, making them accessible to everyone, including those who aren’t technically inclined; compiling incredibly detailed bills of quantities accurate down to the tiniest detail; trust me, these babies are so spot-on, you could practically erect a whole abode using them as your guide.I loved my time at Imbawula Civil Projects and the experiences I had, but l've moved on to new adventures. As a proud member of the Ruwacon team, I took on the challenge of construction monitoring at the Senekal Traffic Control Centre, where I made sure that vehicles behaved themselves and didn't get too rowdy on SANRAL National Route 5. But that's not all, folks! I also supervised the grading, construction, and stabilization of pavement layers for internal roads, because smooth roads are like a magic carpet ride for cars. And let's not forget about office support and administration - I was the one who kept everything running smoothly and on track, like a well-oiled machine (or a hyper-organized engineer, whichever you prefer).But wait, there's more! I even got to participate in some good old-fashioned manual labor, digging trenches and moving mountains (okay, maybe not actual mountains, but definitely some serious bulk earthworks). And let's not forget about the glamorous task of taking soil and concrete samples - I mean, who doesn't love getting their hands dirty and playing with rocks? Just call me the next Indiana Jones of engineering! I may have been a newbie in the engineering world, but I dived headfirst into my role as a Student Technician with Aurecon South Africa like a pro! My days were filled with adventures in site administration, supervision, and management, where no two days were ever the same. One day, I'd be out in the field with resident engineers, tracking progress and ensuring quality control like a boss; the next, I'd be donning my detective hat to investigate structural conditions and plan rehabilitations like Sherlock Holmes (but without the pipe, of course). And let's not forget about the thrilling world of soil sampling - think CSI, but instead of bloodstains and fingerprints, we're talking compacted road layers and hydraulic structures! When I wasn't busy solving mysteries, I also assisted our fearless leaders with technical report writing and contract admin duties.
