Mr. Mohammad Ashfaqur Rahman joined Bangladesh Bank (BB) on December 3, 2006. As Additional Director, he is currently working at the Banking Regulation and Policy Department (BRPD). Mr. Rahman has 18 years of experience working in the financial sector of Bangladesh, along with 16 years of experience in the policy departments of BB. He received the Governor's Award in 2006 for securing first position among all Assistant Directors in the "Bangladesh Bank Foundation Training Course". Additionally, he was awarded “Bangladesh Bank Employees’ Recognition Award, 2012” for his extraordinary contribution to the successful formulation and implementation of the ‘Stress Testing Guidelines for Financial Institutions’. Some of Mr. Rahman’s most notable projects include the ‘Environmental Risk Management (ERM) guidelines for banks and NBFIs’ developed jointly with IFC-SEDF, the ‘CAMELS rating guidelines for NBFIs’, the ‘Stress Testing guidelines for NBFIs’, the draft Act for the Asset Management Company as an alternative NPL resolution mechanism developed jointly with Financial Institutions Division (FID) of Ministry of Finance, the Bancassurance guidelines for banks, and the proposed PPP platform for financial reintegration for Migrant workers jointly with concerned ministry, International centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) and European Union (EU). He is also the focal point from BB for policy related intervention projects of the World Bank and Asian Development Bank (ADB). Currently, Mr. Rahman has been nominated as ‘focal point’ from the Banking Regulation and Policy Department (BRPD) for conducting nationwide awareness program on ‘Unauthorized Banking Prevention’. The objective of the program is to take appropriate measures to increase awareness among the public about illegal banking activities by unregistered and unauthorized private financial institutions, microcredit institutions, and cooperative societies. Mr. Rahman received the prestigious Australia Award Scholarship in 2015 for completing a Master of Commerce (extension) in Finance at UNSW Sydney, Australia, with distinction and a focus on investment banking and portfolio management. He earned top honors in both his undergraduate studies (BBA-Hons.) and postgraduate studies (MBA) in Finance at the University of Dhaka. He was nominated for the Bangladesh Institute of Governance and Management's (BIGM) Policy Analysis Course, where he placed first among credible participants. His ability to conceptualize an innovative thought process has been an asset to all who have worked around him.
