While I agree that following the crowd gives us that security and sense of belonging, stepping away from the crowd nurtures creativity and independent thinking.As a teenager, I didn’t like football or even video games like my peers. I would rather go fishing with my uncle and cousin for the whole summer enjoying the outdoors rather than going with the crowd back in the 90’s to an internet cafe surfing the internet and playing video games. Graduating from high school, my curiosity made me want to travel aboard and discover other cultures. I decided to travel to New Zealand to study university, which is 18 hours flying from home. The time I spent in New Zealand had amplified my love for nature. It turned me from fishing and hunting enthusiast to a person who wants to preserve nature to enjoy it. 4 years of hard work to obtain my engineering degree passed quickly filled with new friendships and numerous trips discovering the Kiwi outdoors. I came back home to Saudi Arabia completely transformed and full of energy to contribute to the future of Saudi Arabia, which was also transforming. I landed my first job in the Oil and Gas industry before even attending my grautaion cermony. Very soon I realized that I have a passion for “challenging the status quo” of conventional oil and gas services. With my engineering technologist background, I enjoyed looking for new ways and new technologies to optimize and improve how things where traditionally done.Fast forward, after many years in the Oil and Gas and after moving industries temporarily and back to the Oil and Gas I realized that this passion of “challenging the status quo” remains.Undoubtedly, the oil and gas industry is essential to economic growth and energy security. It will still play a role in our everyday life for many years to come. However, I realize that the Oil and Gas industry is a major contributor to climate change. My love for nature and the responsibility I have as a father and as a citizen of the world demands me to do what I can to protect the environment and preserve it for the future generations.My commitment as a citizen of the world is to help the Oil and Gas industry make better use of technology to successfully pivot towards a clean sustainable future.
