As an SDOT intern, I reviewed construction plans and drafted early-design guidance for Developers to better integrate private development with City right-of-way priorities. I routinely applied the Seattle Municipal Code to proposed development projects via Preliminary Assessment Reviews, Pre-Submittal Meeting coordination notes, and Early Design Guidance packet review. Additional responsibilities included monitoring developer mitigation payments for compliance with conditions of approval of development permits and drafting memos evaluating right-of-way improvements proposed by SDOT in response to Transportation Impact Analysis results.I also conducted my graduate capstone professional project for SDOT - case study analysis of Seattle’s and peer cities’ development review practices and respective justifications for the nexus and proportionality of right-of-way improvements. This work - titled "Exacting the Sidewalk: Legal Bases for Right-of-Way Improvements Under Nollan/Dolan Criteria" - culminated in a series of recommendations for efficient and equitable development review policy improvements.

I collaborated with professors from UW, USC and UConn to research California and Washington state's regulation of copper-based antifouling paint and co-author a report on The Environmental and Economic Impacts of Moorage Marinas on the West Coast. My contributions included interviewing maritime professionals and pesticide regulation staff on the impacts of the existing and proposed regulation and analyzing vessel registration and economic data to identify potential consequences of proposed policy changes.

Working in small teams, I conducted public outreach on behalf of the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition at street fairs and public events throughout San Francisco. I engaged members of the public in discussions about bicycle transportation infrastructure and policy, cultivation of safe riding habits, and SFBC’s bicycle skill-building courses.

Reporting directly to the Director of Corporate Philanthropy, I nurtured a portfolio of $5,000-level corporate membership and sponsorship contributions and handled client communication and benefits package fulfillment. I teamed up with SPUR's Events team to organize and facilitate morning and evening business member meetings on innovation in urban planning. As a Leader deployed to 15 unique regions on 4 continents, I worked in small, autonomous teams to guide adventure travel excursions for more than 1,500 clients, consistently ranking in the top 10% of my peers, receiving an average guest score of 9.8/10.This dynamic position required me to act as translator, logistician, educator (i.e. naturalist, cultural anthropologist, historian), safety professional, chef and dietary consultant, athletic guide, vendor liaison, and empathetic confidante. Starting this role as someone new to Iceland, in 3 years I implemented new itineraries that increased tour capacity by 300% and made Iceland one of Backroads' top destinations.

As a senior Leader, I leveraged my work experience and training to mentor new leaders and guide them through the challenging and fast-paced onboarding process. I was a point person for personal and professional HR communication in the field, mediated interpersonal conflicts among colleagues, and conducted year-end performance reviews as well as exit interviews.Due to an interest in business development and operations, I took on additional opportunities to design internal and client-facing trip materials and train staff in research protocols and software use.

As a member of the three-person team selected to launch new operations in Mallorca, I conducted the final round of pre-season research, helped organize logistics for the region, and later became the field representative to the European logistics and transportation team. I managed Backroads accommodations, storage facilities, and freight logistics and developed manuals and maintenance protocols for staff to follow. I also negotiated vendor and real estate contracts, supervised dynamic equipment inventories, and ensured trip provisions were supplied on-time and in-budget.I and other first-season staff cultivated a fun culture supportive of maintaining a healthy work-life balance amidst the high-stakes pressures of launching a new and challenging region.

As an intern reporting directly to DAN's Research Director, I collected data on live simulation outcomes inside hyperbaric chambers for Flying After Diving studies jointly supervised by DAN and Duke University. I also managed DAN's breath-hold emergency incident database, edited journal articles and other manuscripts written by DAN research staff, and composed my own manuscript on the use of prosthetics scuba divers with physical disabilities.An exciting and unique responsibility entrusted to me during my internship involved researching the US Institutional Review Board (IRB) application process and administering DAN’s IRB submission.

Over the course of my internship, I achieved certification as a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer proficient in dive center operations, scuba dive instruction, rescue diver protocols, equipment management and repair. I instructed students from 10 to 65 years old in PADI Open Water, Advanced, and specialty coursework. I also sought out community engagement and environmental stewardship opportunities and served as a volunteer diver for the Project Aware Molasses Reef rehabilitation project.
