Selected as one of the 24 graduates out of 1600 applicants to undertake a two-year scheme at the UK’s largest water company. United Utilities, based in the North West, provides water and treats wastewater for nearly 7 million people, working across a range of landscapes and disciplines. The scheme consists of 4x6 month placements on operational sites and at headquarters, gaining an insight into the different areas of the company and developing into a future leader.

Assisted in coordinating 5 external stakeholder events, across the North West for consultation on United Utilities' business plan. As part of this role I:- Digested and analysed large amounts of information in a short period of time, producing content for the events. - Developed communications material suitable for an external audience.- Stepped in to lead the coordination of the last 3 events when the Stakeholder Strategy Manager was unavailable, showing confidence to coordinate internal attendees in more senior positions to me and agility in taking on this further responsibility.- Showed flexibility, enthusiasm and willing, supporting in all aspects, travelling around the region and helping to set up venues outside of working hours, to ensure smooth running of the events.

Spent 6 months as an Assistant Production Manager at a site where bioresources are produced, helping the production manager in the day to day running of the plant, alongside:- Developing visitor safety measures- Lead on development of flood preparedness plan - Worked with a range of stakeholders to further emergency preparedness plansThis placement has given me the opportunity to learn about this completely different area of the business, from management of an operational team to long-term strategic planning in line with business initiatives.

MARS (Mobile Asset Resource Scheduling) is a project aiming to schedule the right field resource, at the right time, with the right equipment, using Smartphones or tough books.Worked as a Change Agent within two large production areas, acting as direct support for up to 40 users, across a large geographical area and being a leader for change. Responsible for the success of MARS within these two production areas by becoming a smartphone expert, acting as an interface between the field team and the wider project, resolving or escalating issues and facilitating training.Developed customer service skills helping users when the system wasn’t working for them, solving problems, gaining trust and showing resilience in helping people handle such a large change. Escalated issues where necessary and succeeded in pushing for connectivity plans to improve usability at a particularly rural site. Assisted in deploying a pilot for a more complex scheduling system in one of my production areas, gathering all data necessary and committing to increased support, whilst also managing my other production area, solving their issues remotely and managing expectations.
