The Skinny and Houli Show is co-hosted by Mike Houlihan and James "Skinny" Sheahan. Conceptually the show is a weekly variety radio program featuring regular chat segments discussing local news, politics, obituaries, celebrity gossip, and many tales told from the angle of being an Irish-American in Chicago. Featuring often prominent and unsung Chicago personalities as guests, we spotlit those "doing good in the hood" with a particular emphasis on nonprofits. Skinny's background in local government spans top executive positions with the Special Olympics of Chicago, the Mayor's Office of Special Events, and campaign management informs his sharp and engaging perspectives on everything political in Chicago, while Houli's role as resident Irish-American comic with his hands in print, stage, and documentary production has certified him a tried and true treasure in Chicago's Irish-American community.

Canvassing neighborhood to assist a high-profile development in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago in advance of city zoning hearings, I educated residents on tense issues concerning demolition and construction impact, parking provisions, building height restrictions, potential student population increase, traffic congestion, plan proposals of building use, and projected local economy boost. I distributed literature, softened public opinion and collected signatures to document support and opposition (by name) to communications firm.

As a backpack reporter freelancing for the web, I contributed several stories to the just-launched hyperlocal social community news site Patch.com on a variety of beats. Content published ranged from restaurant profiles, local hero/personality features, to school board decisions, park district events, and the unforgettable blizzard of 2011. Launching the first hyperlocal blog to sprout on the ChicagoNow network, I authored both original and curated content for Lincoln Park Now. A highly interactive community forum for Chicago's 60614, Lincoln Park Now covered breaking news, profiled local fun spots, delved into political matters, frequently mentioned a Zoo, and tried its best to tickle your funny bone whenever possible.

Investigating public records, filing and following up on Freedom of Information Act requests, and analyzing data of public interest were initiatives of high priority for DePaul Documentary Project, a media production partnership founded by the heavyweight reporting team of Carol Marin (Political Editor/Reporter for NBC-5, Columnist for Chicago Sun-Times, and Chicago Tonight interviewer) and Don Moseley (Investigative Producer, NBC-5).I conducted background research on story leads and pre-interviews, transcribed video, provided assistance in-field on shoots, used FinalCut to edit video, critiqued columns, fact-checked, and engaged in the editorial and production processes of stories carved for broadcast reports, interviews, and print/online publications.

Working among an international team of content editors, I contributed and edited content for the flagship online news service that innovated real-time, hyperlocal coverage of global breaking news stories by pairing verified Tweets that narrated a story's scope from its community and eye-witness accounts. For what almost immediately matured into a go-to source for mainstream media, social media enthusiasts, and a large international audience, BreakingTweets eventually scooped mainstream media breaking stories of major impact. My work primarily concentrated on the UK and Ireland.
