As an Instructional coach and literacy coordinator I had the opportunity to coach teachers (K-2) in the classroom and provide staff development based on best research practices in education. This was truly a growth model that allowed me to work with teachers on many different levels (facilitator, trainer, consultant, coach, etc.), teach an ELA block, and provide 40 hours of staff development to K-2 teachers during the school year. The first year I coached six teachers (first grade) and the second added on another 11 teachers (K, Speech, resource). My forte is looking at the data and thinking about where to go next based on students individual needs. We also thought about the what, why, how, check of our lessons. What are we doing? Why are we teaching this particular skill or strategy? How are we going to teach this particular skill and strategy? How do we check that students have learned what we wanted them to learn? How do we get students to notice that they have learned what we wanted them to learn? Our thinking, teaching, and planning, was grounded in constructivism and inquiry. We dove deep into data to determine strengths, areas of growth and identified gaps in learning.
