At the MIT TLO, I am part of the life science licensing team. In my role as a licensing associate, I have the opportunity to directly interface with MIT researchers, at all stages of their inventions and explore potential commercial value as well as other ways of getting their work out into the world. In so doing, I discuss and draft creative collaboration agreements and/or licensing deals with companies, other academic institutions, and startups. For commercial deals, I've determined IP value by negotiating financial, development and other commercial terms for technologies including research tools, diagnostics and therapeutics. After the licenses are executed, I am also responsible for managing financial and diligence compliance. Additionally, given MIT's wide breadth of alliances, I have had the opportunity to liaise relationships with large sponsors (including but not limited to the Howard Hughes and Media Lab), foundations, and centers.
