I am currently an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Durham Univeristy. The first year will be to transfer and complete my Leverhulme Fellowship. Prior to this, I was a Leverhulme Early Career Fellow at the University of Stirling for a research project called “Fragile Knowledge: Dehumanisation & Interpretation Bias in Autism Research”. I am investigating the role autism researchers play in the construction of autism knowledge. The project uses both textual analysis of existing literature, and experiments with autism researchers. Currently, there are many issues in autism research, such as the dehumanisation of autistic people, and I will be one of the first to systematically examine these issues. I have been awarded a PhD in Psychology for a thesis entitled "autistic community connectedness as a buffer against the effects of minority stress on mental health in the autistic population" from the University of Surrey. Primarily my research has focused on how community may act as a resilience resource for autistic individuals facing stigma and discrimination. This body of research has meant I have engaged with both qualitative and quantitative research skills, and conducted both longitudinal and cross sectional research. Alongside this work I have an interest in responsible and ethical science and how we can prevent dehumanisation of minority groups in research.
