This private sector role included guiding a team of planners with all aspects of the company's planning workstream, and leading the resource consenting component of projects for complex and/or large-scale: subdivision, infrastructure, and land developments, located primarily within the Lower North Island.Notable projects during this period included a variety of comprehensive residential subdivision developments in Ōtaki, Waikanae North, Normandale, and Wainui; the relocation of Saint Patricks's / Our Lady of Kāpiti Primary School in Paraparaumu; a large-scale pre-casting yard at Otaihanga Landfill; several new or altered childcare and tertiary education centres; environmental management projects including global consents for on-going local authority maintenance activities; successful re-zonings of land; and an animal rescue shelter and education centre in Manakau.

My role in the resource consents team at Kāpiti Coast District Council was during a dynamic time for the district - central government announced a Road of National Significance was to be constructed through the district, commercial and industrial investment grew visibly changing the identity of the district from a weekend and retirement destination; climate change events drew strong interest in coastal protection challenges; and a second generation plan was being prepared. I led or worked closely on several, notable land development projects including: the Road of National Significance MacKays to Peka Peka Expressway; the 220kV Transpower Upgrade associated with the Expressway/Transmission Gully; a new cleanfill operation requiring collaboration with regional council; the Vodafone Rural Broadband Roll-Out Programme; the start-up of large-scale commercial and industrial activities; as well as several retirement and lifestyle village developments. I was heavily involved in the RMA reforms of this period, including: sitting on a Steering Group for MfE; co-authoring submissions to central government on behalf of Council; leading the review of internal systems and processes; collaborating with MfE for reporting purposes; and overseeing the roll-out of updated tools which gave effect to the various reforms.

Seconded to Kāpiti Coast District Council's policy planning team to assist with all aspects of the District Plan Review in the led-up to notification of its second generation District Plan. This role included drafting and reviewing chapters with a particular focus on District-wide matters, section 32 reporting, stakeholder engagement and consultation, presentations to Council for approval, and general administration associated with the Schedule 1 process.

A community-based role centered around supporting people with intellectual disabilities and/or mental health issues to live their best life, independently, in the community. Working with community stakeholders, local businesses, employers and government agencies to break down barriers which disable some people from participating meaningfully in their community.

Providing in-house assistance to Horowhenua District Council's resource consents team, including: public enquires; processing of Project Information Memorandums and Land Information Memorandums; processes and systems updates; vetting resource consent applications; and general administrative tasks.
