There were roughly 350 of students enrolled in the school and class sizes varied from 15 students in the upper levels to 30 students in the lower levels. Lessons benefited the students, and the teaching process and experience benefited one teaching partner. Karissa encouraged research-based, student-centered teaching practices, including using formative assessments, implementing pre, during and post reading and listening activities, teaching the four skills (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) at every lesson, using positive reinforcement, employing consistent classroom management techniques, and promoting equitable practices. In addition to teaching Ms. Karissa Montes helped partners identify strengths and build on individual, organizational and school assets. Together with partners explored best project activities were designed to be sustainable both during and after service.
