Over the last decade I have developed a uniquely branded skillset to adapt to many drastic situations. For the past four years I have been living in Southern California, and before that a year in Portland, and a dozen before that in Denver where I got my Masters in Architecture. Yes, I want to be an urban, smaller scale architect or designer, and, yes, one day I would like to design and build my own culinary laboratory prototypes for domestic use, among other floating ideas. But, for now, I have to focus on how my experience managing strong teams and driving hard sales departments to success, can push me to the next round of my career. Managing people, by far, has been the most difficult part of my development but also the most rewarding, because I have found out much about my character. It takes sensitivity and nuance and good observational skills. I am hard on myself yes, but not to a toxic fault. I am passionate about learning and trying new things and often do so quickly. I get to know people on my staff in ways that help them recognize and grow their innate talents, as well as earn the respect to get the comfortable to build a respectful and collaborative relationship. True innovation comes from working together. I love what I do, especially where I see my future in design, and I often find myself just wanting to be stronger and more adaptable. I would like to be licensed one day, or at least in the design-build industry at some point, but I need to network and broaden my horizons a bit. I am a bit on the spectrum, more loosely associated with Aspergers than anything more debilitating, and I think this brings two amazing qualities to the table. One, I am empathetic and understand subtleties very well in tone, behavior, posture, and all the rest and have a very strong gut reaction to things, usually ringing true. Second, I think in very abstract ways in addition to the line of thinking in discourse, but I feel this allows me to distill complex and disparate ideas into clear and focused visions for project teams and goals. I can hone in one the one big Thing like a laser and be very blunt about it. While my strengths by experience do include spatial programming, schematic design and modeling, and specific modes of digital fabrication and working knowledge of construction documents, I have been managing retail environments to make a living for nearly two decades.
