The Kitchen Front is a 1940’s themed ceramicware workshop and tearoom. This dynamic business provides a range of services from all-day 1940’s experiences and ceramic painting workshops to bespoke and made-to-order kitchenware.My role as assistant is as multi-faceted as the business itself. It includes creating new designs that follow current trends or client briefs without losing the identity of the business. Then batch producing them to sell in the shop. Producing the ceramics involves managing the painted and blank bisque stock, hand-painting and finishing all ceramicware to a professional standard including glazing, firing, polishing and packing. The other main aspect of the role is leading ceramic painting workshops of up to 12 people on my own or as part of a team. This involves demonstrating various techniques, giving technical advice, engaging with the clients and later glazing and firing their painted ceramic.

This café was located in a children’s leisure centre at a tourist destination. This meant that I was performing waitressing duties such as taking orders at the till, making drinks, serving food and pot washing in a high-pressure environment. I also would set up rooms for the children’s parties.
