I led a team of Fire Safety Officers and Administrative staff within the Proactive Services Directorate, providing essential support by interpreting and implementing local and international safety standards and legislation. Through practical application of procedures and processes, we ensured alignment with not only legislative intent but industry best practice.My responsibilities encompassed:• Ensuring that effective and efficient administration, research & development policy formulation service is provided by the Fire Safety section.• Overseeing/ coordinating research/ development of fire safety & fire prevention strategies to ensure compliance with National legislation/ other policies & by-laws• Managing budget/ assets of Section so the Section financially compliant• Managing staff within unit as per agreed upon policies & City’s Conditions of Service• Assisting/ advising with management of large-scale incidentsRepresenting Section on various standing and ad hoc committees, including:• Gauteng Province - Fire Safety Working Group• National Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs – Fire Services Co-ordination• South African Bureau of Standards Technical Committees o TC 1060 - Standards which address the National Building Regulations (NBRS) o TC 1019 - Gas supply, handling, and control (fuel, industrial and medical gases) o TC 280 - The petroleum industry - Equipment and systems o TC 1060 - National Committee for standards for dangerous goods including hazardous chemical substances and dangerous goods waste• Liquified Petroleum Gas South Africa - Technical Committee• Fire Protection Association of Southern Africa
