Undertook a six-month independent Lab project at the Molecular Diagnostics Unit, within the Department of Infectious Diseases at Imperial, supervised by Dr Carolina Rosadas and Prof Graham Taylor. Worked to characterise HTLV-1 Elite controllers using a range of molecular techniques. Developed proficiency in performing many lab techniques including quantitative PCR, digitaldroplet PCR, and genetic sequencing, in addition to processing milk and oral fluid samples. Additionally gained experience performing experiments at containment level 3 such as CD4+ magnetic sorting, Flow cytometry, and processing HTLV-1/HIV infected blood samples. Presented Lab results to experts in the field at the HTLV European Research Network conference (Madrid 2023). Work presented at the conference was determined to be a “hot topic” by the AIDS Review journal (Volume 25 – Number 3). Show less
