My name is Morris Mitchell. I am a High School Football/Track Coach at Union Grove High School in McDonough, GA. I am the Varsity Corner backs coach for football and the Varsity Sprinters coach for track. Prior to my arrival at Union Grove, I was a professional athlete. I started in the Canadian Football League where I participated in Mini-Camp with the Edmonton Eskimos. After being cut by the Eskimos, I was signed by the Georgia Firebirds of the National Arena League. For the Firebirds, I started at Corner back where I tallied 18 tackles, 2 Pass Break Ups, 1 interception and a 65-yard touchdown in four games. In college, I played football at Shorter University, West Hills College Coalinga and Bluefield College (Va.). I was a 3 year starter over the tenure of my collegiate career. At Bluefield College, I started at Free Safety as a True Freshmen. As a sophomore at West Hills, I was an honorable mention All-Golden Coast League player and finished runner up in the Best Defensive Back voting for the state of California. At Shorter University, I was a Team Captain and a Gulf South Conference Academic All-American. While I was in college, I interned in the Sports and Information Department at Shorter University, where my job consisted of entering rosters, working events, and typing athletic articles for the Shorter University athletic website. I also worked in the retail industry while I was in college at Plato's Closet and Sears.
