In this position I managed large-scale datasets in order to create maps in ARCGIS online for both federal partners and summer interns to observe and understand the temporal efficacy of campsite restoration along the John Muir Trail. I regularly interfaced with two sets of 4 interns in order to assist them in uploading, managing and editing data that was collected from the field.

Primarily assisted in sorting and identifying macroinvertebrates. Also performed fieldwork in Pinnacles to sample invertebrates and check sap flow and soil moisture sensors to investigate aquatic food web structure in an intermittent stream where flow ceases during the dry season.

Sierra National Forest

As an intern I my daily tasks involved: (i) describing and GIS-locating damaged terrain; (ii) conducting recovery sweeps to check on previously restored sites; (iii) doing modest restoration to improve surrounding areas; and (iv) GIS-locating eligible terrain more suitable for camping away from the decommissioned/ restored areas.

Sorted and identified macroinvertebrates to aid in the investigation of understanding how extreme low flows caused by climate change will affect the future aquatic insect communities of the Sierra Nevada headwaters located near Kings Canyon National Park.

Sierra National Forest

Served as a Forest Ranger for the Sierra National Forest, High Sierra Ranger District in the Ansel Adams, Dinkey Lakes, John Muir, and Kaiser Wilderness areas. Responsibilities consisted of a) maintained system trails through clearing down trees with crosscut and chainsaw, cleaning water bars and drain dips for erosion prevention, and brushing the trail corridor, b) tool use including crosscut and other hand saws, shovels, loppers, pulaski, axe, and rock bar , c) making visitor contacts including checking wilderness permits, educating the public about Leave No Trace ethics, proper food storage, camping regulations, and d) enforcement of wilderness regulations, and assessing overall impacts and legality of dispersed campsites, and containing and obliterating illegal sites.
