The department that I worked in was the production development department and the first task given to me was to gather information about the meaning of 5S techniques which is mainly used to organize production lines by eliminating waste material as much as possible. The second task given to me was to inspect the CSS subassembly line and extract problems regarding wasted helping material, hazards, boxes or racks in the way hindering motion of the workers, extra raw materials provided and finally unused old tools or broken working tables. Third task was to draw the current layout of the subassembly line using Microsoft Visio application. The subassembly line had 6 workstations and I had to draw a current layout related to each workstation. The fourth task was to pinpoint the problems in each workstation and find solutions for these problems either by removing unneeded material racks or unused machines or specifying places for each item and finally by buying new equipment if needed. New equipment were bought from websites like Alkonplastics and Manutan . Examples of these equipment medium or heavy weight racks or color coded plastic bins used to hold raw or helping material. The fifth task was to draw the future layout using Microsoft Visio for each of the 6 workstations. These layouts involved the organized items and new items purchased and also the unneeded items were eliminated. The sixth and final task was to design a 2 level movable tray designed to carry boxes carrying manufactured copper to transfer it from the copper station to the busbar station which is the first workstation in my subassembly line. To design this tray, I used Solidworks application and to be able to carry the heavy load of the copper boxes, I used Pipex technique which involves using pipes connected together using T-shaped and L-shaped joints. I used this technique because it is easy to manufacture and is efficient in carrying heavy loads.

Summer Intern

Egypt

The internship was conducted in Honda Egypt service center at the Cairo festival branch. There was a great variety in the performed tasks. First of all, Eng. Islam who was my mentor taught me: how to use the Multiple Diagnostic Module (MDI) and Global Diagnostic System (GDS) software in order to check all the errors in the car detected by the control unit, different common errors and their codes and how to detect the spare parts causing the error in order to fix or replace them , how to keep track of the sensors readings and whether the values are in the normal range or not and reprogramming the control unit after replacing any damaged spare part using Service Programming System (SPS) software. After learning how to use these software programs I was assigned to receive cars in the service center, read the complaints of the clients, use the MDI to do a check up to assign the spare parts causing the errors, calling the reception engineer who received the car to inform the client about the damaged part, its availability and its cost. In case of the agreement of the car owner to have it repaired in the service center I assign the car to a mechanic or an electrician according to the spare part that will be replaced or the maintenance that will be done. In order to enhance my technical and hand working skills I worked with the mechanics and the electricians. By the end of the month I became able to load the car on the rotary lift, do systematic service tasks such as changing spark plugs, performing battery test, cylinder compression test and leakage test, changing engine and transmission oil and changing air, oil, gasoline and AC filters. Last but not the least I took part in engines overhauling which was both useful and interesting to take part in engine disassembly, changing pistons and timing belt and head gasket.
