Dr. Mohammad Parwez Akhtar is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Manipal University Jaipur. He holds a Ph.D. in Water Resources Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-Roorkee), with a focus on 2-D Depth Averaged Modeling for the Curvilinear Braided Stretch of the Brahmaputra River. His research interests encompass Water Resources Modeling, River Mechanics, Geoinformatics, Geotechnical Engineering, and Environmental Engineering.With over 20 years of industry experience, Dr. Akhtar has held various positions, including Gazetted Engineer, Sub-Divisional Officer, and Under Secretary at the State Water Resources Department, Government of Bihar/Jharkhand. He has been actively involved in water policy formulation, planning, and monitoring of water resources projects across the states.In his current role as an Associate Professor at Manipal University Jaipur since January 2018, Dr. Akhtar has contributed to the field of Civil Engineering through teaching and research. He has expertise in courses such as Fluid Mechanics, Water Resources Engineering, Environmental Impact Assessment, Geotechnical Engineering, and Environmental Hydrology.Dr. Akhtar has been engaged in significant research projects, including being a Project Co-Investigator for the study of Brahmaputra River erosion and its control, funded by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Government of India. He is also a copyright holder for C++ Source Code related to mesh generation algorithms for coordinate system transformation.His scholarly contributions include book chapters, journal articles, and conference publications, focusing on topics like drought characterization, hydro-climatic projections, and the influence of contaminants on soil behavior.
