Responsible for the management of the Global Aviation Safety Office which processes, analyses and investigates accidents and incidents affecting the Bristow Group worldwide; this includes both rotary and fixed wing operations. The Aviation Safety Office plays a pivotal role in Risk Management within Bristow, providing feedback and feed-forward into the Group's Safety Management System.Current areas of interest are: using Data Science to improve safety lessons learned and increase operational effectiveness; using energy mapping to identify unsafe conditions, such as unstabilised approaches and go-arounds, in Flight Data Monitoring.

This role was concurrent with the other Bristow positions, from 2000 until October 2016.Responsible for the flight testing of modifications developed by the Bristow Part 21J Design Office, which has EASA and CASA Part 27 and 29 Approvals. Associated with this role is being a Certification Verification Engineer for Bristow modifications regarding cockpit design, performance, aircraft handling and human factors. In addition the role involves the development of Safety System Assessments and compilation of certification plans. As part of this role, co-opted onto a number of technical and regulatory committees and groups:Co-lead for the ICAO Helicopter All-Weather Operations work streamEASA All Weather Operations RMTCAA Helicopter Terrain Awareness Warning System Research GroupRTCA Special Committee 212 which developed MOPS for Class B H-TAWSEASA Safety Standards Consultative CommitteeEASA Ops 001 Committee which transitioned JAR OPS 1 and 3 into EASA Part OpsJAA Helicopter Sub-Sectorial Committee which developed JAR OPS 3

Responsible for the design, implementation and auditing of Bristow Group Operational Standards across the globe.Standards developed included aircraft role fits and associated operational procedures, for example for H-TAWS and the first certification and operational implementation of TCAS II on helicopters.Operational audits of global Group activities ensured compliance with National Regulations, Group Standards and Client Requirements.External audits included audits of helicopter OEMs to validate their design, certification and continued airworthiness processes.

Selected to attend the French Test Pilot School, École du Personnel Navigant d'Essais et de Reception (EPNER). Following EPNER posted to Boscombe Down as the Certification Flight Commander on the Rotary Wing Test Squadron. As well as the Flight Commander role, was the project pilot for a number of development, certification and research projects. These ranged from certification of the Chinook Mk2 FADEC, assessment and introduction of COMR aircraft, development of military EO testing standards, assessment and role testing of airships as part of PROJECT CONVERTIBLE, research projects.

Following officer and pilot training, flew Puma HC1 helicopters for 2 tours. Then worked at MOD London on the EH101 Project. Selected for an exchange tour with the Army Air Corp where commanded an anti-tank flight equipped with the Lynx Mk1/7. When selected for test pilot training at EPNER was prepared by attending the RAF French Linguist Course at RAF North Luffenham.
