For the last several years, I've been doing mostly HTML5 development with a heavy emphasis on JavaScript and CSS 3. During this time, I consulted for many companies, including Oracle, Overstock.com, Time Warner Cable, Evite, LinkedIn, and Comcast.

I was hired by CA to help them adopt AngularJS and create two new products with it. The team used agile practices to develop and successfully launched both products in six months. They were new to AngularJS, so this was quite the effort. I provided architecture guidance, evangelized AngularJS best practices, developed features, reviewed code, and created/delivered presentations on Sass, CSS and Angular 2. It was a great group to work with.

I was hired to do an architecture assessment of existing applications and to help modernize them. I helped get PA Logic 4.0 released in June, followed by upgrading from Acegi Security to Spring Security. Shortly after, I assisted in upgrading to GWT 2.6 and converted to HTML5. Other projects included migrating from IBM Message Broker to Apache Camel and developing a REST API with JAXB, Spring Boot and Spring Data.One of the most rewarding parts of this gig was mentoring fellow developers on Java, GWT, HTML5, AngularJS, Spring Boot, Apache Camel and testing.

In January, we started by evaluating Ajax Frameworks and came to the conclusion that GWT was right for our team. After we chose the UI framework, other team members chose Grails and memcached to develop scalable RESTful services. The architecture we implemented involves using GWT's RequestBuilder to talk to Grails' services, which cache almost all their JSON output in memcached.To see an example of a feature we developed with GWT, see Evite's Design Gallery at http://www.evite.com/party/invitations. I personally worked on this feature and very much enjoyed becoming a GWT aficionado in the process. GWT's zero-turnaround feature made doing pure client-side work a lot of fun. It's definitely something I'd like to continuing doing at my next gig.
