The Primary Club of Australia is a “charities’ charity”, as funds raised are made available to other registered charities to enable the purchase of sporting and recreational facilities for people living with a disability.More than $5 million has been raised to date and donated to projects ranging from the purchase of Braille computers, playground equipment, sit-skis and wicker balls for blind cricket to horse-riding arenas, hydrotherapy pools and specialised boats.The Primary Club of Australia also awards the Sir Roden Cutler Award to acknowledge an outstanding sporting achievement by an Australian disabled athlete. As part of the award, the awardee receives a grant of $20,000 for recreational facilitiesThe Primary Club of Australia Inc. is a registered charity founded in 1974 by a group of cricket lovers whose fundamental aim was to give those living with disabilities the opportunity to experience the joy and exhilaration that physical activity of any kind brings.The Primary Club of Australia raises money through an annual subscription fee (that covers the cost of raising our donations) and through “fining” our members (as an optional donation) for every primary (golden duck) scored by an Australian player in Test matches, One-Day and Twenty20 Internationals cricket matches during the previous year.The club also holds many exciting sporting and social functions. Organised largely by volunteers, these includes Marathon Cricket, golf days, a day at the races, a breakfast before the Sydney Test, a Melbourne lunch held in March and other functions to celebrate special achievements by Australian sportsmen and women.
