I work closely with government, other industry bodies and a variety of stakeholder groups.Led the successful regional launch of ISC2’s Certified in Cybersecurity qualification, candidate member programme and its 100K in the UK programme to provide 100,000 free exams and courseware packages to UK career-seekers. Together, these initiatives increased membership from 168,000 to over 600,000, boosting revenue and delivering a significant improvement in the UK’s cybersecurity skills shortage.As one of the senior members of staff in the UK, I am also a line manager and for nearly two years was a day-to-day people leader for 20+ employees in the region, following the departure and delayed replacement of the regional MD.I also lead the organisation’s publishing activities, managing a contract publishing team, audio/video production crew, as well as our internal publishing and content creation resources.I work closely with our events team to programme conferences and develop communications plans and activities for our owned and third-party events activities.

Communications Workstream Lead - Uk Cyber Security Council Formation Project

In addition to my ISC2 role (see above), I served as the communications workstream lead on the project to build the UK Cyber Security Council.ISC2 is part of the Cyber Security Alliance, which worked on behalf of the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) to build and deliver the Council, a self-regulating body to oversee the cybersecurity skills sector in the UK.In this role, I led and worked with a team of industry volunteers and the project secretariat to evaluate, select and manage the internal and external contractors that delivered the components of the workstream. These include PR, branding, website and social media development, strategic planning and content creation. I was then hands-on in the day-to-day management of these contractors and evaluating/approving all their deliverables (branding, web site, PR, content etc).I controlled and managed a budget of public funds in excess of £500,000 to deliver the above components.This role involved close working with DCMS, NCSC and 16+ industry bodies, stakeholders and qualification gatekeepers.I had a hands-on role creating key pieces of content, strategic plans, campaigns and executing media relations activities. I also represented the workstream at the UK Cyber Security Council Project Board and in meetings with government, worked closely with the IET project secretariat to provide reports on the progress and activities of the workstream, along with ensuring accountability, transparency and compliance.Following the completion of the project and the launch of the Council in April 2021, I was retained as a volunteer strategic advisor on PR and communications matters, working closely with the acting CEO, managing director, PR agency and marketing team to advise on PR activities, content, talking points, market intelligence and strategic activities. This role concluded in June 2022 once the full-time team was put in place.

High-profile interview subjects included Microsoft CEOs Steve Ballmer and Bill Gates, Oracle CEO Larry Ellison and Apple CEO Steve Jobs.I managed reporters and production staff, liaised with VNU lab staff on testing criteria, worked with VNU business IT titles across Europe on project collaboration and copy-sharing opportunities, and worked with mainstream media to comment on business and technology news. I was also part of the team that delivered two successful redesigns of the weekly print title.My time on Computing also included a period covering the dot-com boom and the beginning of its decline from the heart of Silicon Valley, based out of San Francisco. My final role included taking on the editorship of computing.co.uk. working with teams to deliver a substantial and award-winning redesign and reconstruction of the computing.co.uk web site as part of a web-first publishing strategy. This included implementing new content, a new meta tag-based structure and search.
