Protocol Labs is an open source R&D lab driving breakthroughs in computing. We build protocols, tools, and services to radically improve the internet. High Assurance Engineering is the organization responsible for all aspects of Stripe's secure and regulatory compliant Cardholder Data Environment (CDE). Our engineering teams handle encryption, tokenization and storage of sensitive data, manage gateway datacenter connectivity to financial partners, provide an extensible platform interface for the rest of Stripe to build financial integrations upon, and scale and secure the underlying infrastructure itself. All financial transactions on the charge path flow through the CDE; making our security, reliability, and latency guarantees highly critical.Additionally I serve on our Remote Hub Leadership Team, striving to make sure all Stripes can have a fulfilling and productive experience regardless of where they choose to work. Remote is the largest hub at Stripe, consisting of O(many thousands) Stripes around the world.

OpenLaw is a ConsenSys spoke startup building smart legal agreements, utilizing blockchain technologies to reimagine the $160 billion transactional legal market.I scaled out the organization and practices across the board: software development process, hiring practices, code review, testing, tooling and infrastructure. Built out a strong workplace culture within a “remote first” team collaborating across 4 continents. Established hiring strategy and practices and scaled the team 3x.

Much as Khan Academy is based in the potential of technology to transform the classroom, I believe there is also a similar opportunity to use technology to invent the workplace of the future—and in particular to improve the ways in which we practice software development.I worked across people, process, and code — all towards the goal of optimizing the effectiveness and happiness of the distributed engineering team. Khan Academy was a blended onsite/remote team, with ~50% of the engineering team onsite in Mountain View, and ~50% working remote from geographically distributed locations.

Alternating between a paintbrush and a lab coat. Fixed length residency of independently driven projects focused on realtime data streaming visualization and analysis, as well as providing consultation to core R&D product groups within Samsung NEXT/Labs.

Tasked with scaling and transforming Bitly from an infrastructure company to a product focused organization with robust consumer and enterprise product offerings. At its height, more than 25% of all URLs on Twitter were powered through the Bitly platform.I was responsible for leading overall product strategy and development—as well as the building out and leadership of the Product Management, Design, Community, and Consumer (Application, Mobile and Frontend) Engineering organizations.

Working at Flickr is somewhat akin to piloting a rocket-powered banana-delivery truck* at 20,000mph through a dense forest filled with dangerously hungry apes. (*p.s. that truck is also on fire.) While there, I helped grow the market leading photo sharing experience from 1M to 100M+ registered members. My primary responsibility was to develop Flickr's long-term strategic roadmap as well as oversee all day-to-day product development -- and occasionally put out brush fires.

Part of the founding team at Yahoo! Research Labs Berkeley. Designed and conducted projects focused on social incentives for online participation. Provided internal strategy consulting for Yahoo! product teams and crafted internal best practices for the development of social software.

Led a team of researchers and developers in studying the social usage of mobile technology.

Primary director for technical operations and product development in a small-business publishing venture focusing on the financial sector. Managed developers and designers.
