Upon my hire date in 2012, I began changing the way my students were getting thier information by shifting curriculum towards our ever growing digital landscape; advancing my students mathematically while also increasing thier technological skills. Deciding to adopt technology early in my career also allowed me to recognize and implement learning strategies that made efficient use of time while providing more access towards content. I look forward to the new advancements in AI and the use cases it will serve in the math and music classroom in the next coming years.

As a classroom teacher, I created a music program and was nominated as Rotary Club's Teacher Of The Year in 2015. In addition, I taught an after school, hybrid math program where I facilitated student achievement through an online learning platform. In March 13, 2020, when we were notified that our school would close down, I was able to quickly shift all of my students to online learning systems to provide the opportunity for students to still graduate high school. In the last couple years, as we’ve now progressed back to an in-person learning environment, I have been focused on financial literacy curriculum in order to give my students essential skills to survive in an economic environment where food, housing, and health costs have risen at a substantial rate due to rising inflation combined with slow growth in wages.

In 2015 I developed the first music curriculum at Valley Vista High School with 10 donated guitars from the HBHS music program. Over the years I have broadened the music program to specialize in Arts, Entertainment, and Media by building a recording studio equipped with pro audio equipment, a drum room with top of the line drums, piano labs to acquire music theory and music notation literacy, and an In Ear Monitoring system for the entire stage band to record their live rehearsals while they get ready to perform rock shows for our school and other venues within our local community establishments. I’ve also equipped the music class with the means for students to learn the art of music production using FL studio. Lastly, for those students that just want to play and listen to other people’s creations, I’ve also created a DJ station where students can learn an additional side hustle as a party DJ to play music at events.The music program that we were able to create at our continuation high school provides many students suffering from hardships with the motivation they need to come to our school to get the education they need to graduate with a diploma. I’m very grateful to have the support of our district to recognize and help me implement my vision. I get to be apart of something bigger than me and see all the smiles it brings out.
