My name is Tom and I live in central Illinois where I am a Captain in the McLean County Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol. I attribute the Civil Air Patrol as being one of the most influential parts of my life.I have served a total of 8 years with the McLean County Composite Squadron. I served 5 years as a cadet earning the rank Cadet Colonel. After my Civil Air Patrol cadet service, I enlisted into the U.S. Air Force where I became an Air Transportation Specialist (2T2X1...Go Port Dawgs!) The experience I gained from my cadet time in the Civil Air Patrol allowed me to enter the U.S. Air Force at a significant advantage over other Airmen who did not have CAP behind them. Due to my experience, I entered into the Air Force two pay grades higher than most while wearing two stripes as an Airman First Class (A1c) while others entered with no stripes as Airman Basics (AB).After serving in the U.S. Air Force I returned to service with the Civil Air Patrol where I have served an additional 3 years as a Senior Member and continue to do so as this is written. I currently hold the positions of both Testing Officer and Recruiting and Retention Officer in our squadron. I have found that serving in the Civil Air Patrol has been an absolutely awesome experience that has and continues to open big doors to great opportunities. Tom
