About Michael Valentine
I am currently an R&D Scientist with LifeNet Health in Virginia Beach, VA. I am a highly motivated research scientist with a background in Biomedical Engineering and 10+ years of medical research experience and expertise in pulmonary and cardiovascular mechanobiology, drug development and discovery, tissue engineering, and regenerative medicine. I am currently focusing on developing novel tissue allograft products and processes for several clinical needs. Previously, I completed my postdoctoral research in the Merryman Mechanobiology Lab in the Biomedical Engineering Department at Vanderbilt University where I focused on drug development for Pulmonary Hypertension and other cardiovascular diseases. As a postdoctoral researcher in the Merryman Mechanobiology Lab, I was examining the therapeutic effects of serotonin signaling and novel drug compounds in cardiopulmonary diseases through the use of medicinal chemistry approaches and high-throughput drug screening. I started my undergraduate research career at the University of Virginia where we were investigating how various anesthetic drugs interact with neurotransmitter systems to produce certain pharmacological and toxicological effects in the central nervous system. During my graduate work in the Pulmonary Mechanobiology lab at VCU, I was researching how aging and mechanical stresses and strains impact the responses and function of healthy and diseased lung cells/tissues.
