Senior leader of the RN Engineering Branch, responsible for Naval Engineering Strategy, Doctrine and Policy, delivery of operational engineering capability, engineering support improvement, innovation and information exploitation and Director of Programme Faraday to up-skill RN Technicians.Key achievements:• Directed the RN contribution to the national Year of Engineering 2018 campaign, delivering over 280 activities that increased website interest by 41%, reached over 7 million people on social media and interacted directly with more than 350.000.• Led the development and publication of the Naval Engineering Strategy and Doctrine. Set engineering policy and branch vision, implemented the waterfront engineering blueprint and established the whole-force approach. • Established a programme of ship support recovery, setting out the strategy and benefits that convinced the Navy Command Operating Board to invest. Engaged with internal, external and international stakeholders to create a coherent programme and exploit information exchange. • Established the Maritime Support Information Exploitation Strategy for an enterprise approach to data analytics that was widely endorsed across MoD and industry. Championed digital innovation to de-risk future platforms, and optimise safety, performance and availability.• Co-opted twice onto industry-led review teams to provide engineering assurance of the Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carrier. Conducted analysis of system design and operability of the power and propulsion system and assessed build readiness. • As Programme Director for the £30M Faraday programme, conducted a forensic analysis of the programme, contract, budget, costs and benefits and reinforced governance arrangements, resulting in successful delivery of training improvement and reduction of cost exposure to MoD.• Chaired the International Naval Engineering Conference and established the Naval Engineering Special Interest Group.

Assurance of engineering practices and standards across 49 ships of the Royal Navy, ranging from patrol boats to the new Aircraft Carriers, to generate and maximise operational capability, availability and sustainability through the provision of Marine Engineering leadership, coaching and mentoring Marine Engineer Officers and providing advice and guidance to Commanding Officers.

Led the development and application of policy and process to fulfil Duty Holder responsibilities and ensure effective safety management is enabled across the surface ship community.

Accountable for the planning, management and delivery of maintenance, defect repair and capability upgrade to all Portsmouth-based warships world-wide, undertaken by a workforce in excess of 300 BAE Systems and Royal Navy personnel. Accountable for over £12M of business annually.

Provided technical and logistics support to all reciprocating machinery operated by the MoD; in excess of 3,500 engines from over 30 equipment manufacturers and 200,000 spare parts. Managed all support contracts and financial planning out to 10 years; an annual budget of over £9M and financial delegation to approve and commit expenditure up to £5M.

Responsible for Marine Engineering policy and practise across all RN major warships.
