Melanie Mudd is a Central Nurse Educator for the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center Nursing Department, and Program Director for the Clinical Research Nursing Residency Program. An alumni of The Catholic University of America School of Nursing (BSN class of 2010), Ms. Mudd has over a decade of nursing experience, with majority of her practice in the specialty of Pediatric Nursing. Ms. Mudd’s areas of passion are transition to practice and onboarding/orientation: in addition to overseeing the residency program, Ms. Mudd co-coordinates the NIH Clinical Center Nursing Department Orientation program, working with service-based educators and unit-based clinical educators on the implementation of a standardized orientation offering for all direct-care clinical staff. Additionally, she supports the awarding of nursing continuing professional development (NCPD) credit for departmental trainings, and the credentialing and privileging of extra-departmental nurses. Ms. Mudd also serves as an appraiser for the ANCC Practice Transition Accreditation Program. Ms. Mudd holds certification as a Nursing Professional Development Specialist (NPD-BC), and strives to create relevant and engaging programs that will further the professional development of NIH Clinical Research Nursing staff. She is a proud member of the Association for Nursing Professional Development (ANPD), Practice Transition Accreditation Program (PTAP) Learning Community, American Nurses Association, Maryland Nurses Association, and Philippine Nurses Association of America. In her “down-time”, Ms. Mudd is a self-proclaimed foodie, and enjoys exploring new places, good music, and having fun with her energetic boys Jackson and Liam.
