As part of the national communications team, I support various long term and emergency-related projects. My duties can include but are not limited to, writing blogs, key messages, reactive lines, social media content; developing digital assets; facilitating media interviews.

In this position, I am periodically deployed internationally to support the Red Cross response to unfolding natural disasters. My role is to raise awareness of the needs, the gaps, the challenges, the Red Cross response, and how Canadians can help. I do this through a variety of methods including writing web articles, photography, videography, social media, and media interviews. I also manage any reputational risk issues which may arise.

As communications manager for IFRC in sub-Saharan Africa, I supported 49 Red Cross Red Crescent National Societies in their communication needs. This included writing, photography, media relations, reputation management and capacity building. I also promoted the work of the IFRC in Africa on a global scale through engagement with media, as well as management of social media accounts.

I manage a team of approximately 70 volunteers. We are constantly on-call, prepared to respond to small scale disasters (house fires), where we provide clients with up to 72 hours of clothing, food and lodging support.We also respond to large scale disasters such as flooding, or forest fires.

Using a multi-disciplinary approach, I was responsible for all internal and external communications during the Reconstruction Phase of the Canadian Red Cross Tsunami Reconstruction Program in Indonesia.
