I hold a doctorate in Plant Physiology from the Netherlands and a doctorate in Agronomy from Pakistan. As an independent researcher, I engage in both basic and applied research across laboratories, greenhouses, and field settings in Europe and Africa. My primary goal is to develop practical and effective agricultural practices that enhance crop productivity and input-use efficiency sustainably and cost-effectively.My areas of expertise include weed management, parasitic weed control, phytohormone-parasite interactions, plant nutrition, soil management, and field crop production. I specialize in cereals, with extensive experience in laboratory, greenhouse, mini-field, and field settings, particularly with major cereal crops such as millet, maize, sorghum, rice, and wheat. Additionally, I have expertise in managing certain horticultural crops, especially tomatoes and peppers. I focus on plant growth and development, phenotyping, phenology, yield and its components, and stress physiology. I am also an active team member of the Gates and Melinda Foundation Project aimed at combating a parasite in Africa.As a weed biologist and physiologist, I possess unique experience in cereal parasites affecting African agriculture and currently serve as the general secretary of the International Plant Parasitic Society (IPPS).My research encompasses plant physiology, agronomy, and weed biology and ecology, aiming to improve crop yield through modern technologies. I investigate plant signaling (specifically strigolactones) and their interactions with parasites to control parasitic weeds. My work also involves phyto-hormonal phenotyping and bioassays related to plant architecture and stress physiology, along with studying new carotenoid-derived metabolites and bio-stimulants to boost crop yield and productivity.Additionally, I have a strong background in project management, IT skills, data analysis and interpretation, basic statistics, academic writing, interpersonal communication, scientific writing, grant writing, and presentation skills. I am trained in biosafety, laboratory safety, and biohazard waste management, and I have completed crisis management training. I was recognized with the Civil Defense President Rover Scout Award and was a silver medalist in my secondary school certificate.
