Muhammad Shakil Email and Phone Number
I started my Biodiversity Specialist career in 2016 when I enrolled in Carnivore Conservation Lab, Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad, Pakistan. Here I learned about wildlife surveys, including trapping animals, radio collaring, use of dart guns, camera trapping, acoustic sampling, and genetic sampling and analysis. I participated in ecology-related surveys in the remote and rugged terrain of Central Karakoram National Park located in K-2 Landscape. I also participated in the ecosystem services surveys in the Himalayan regions in Musk Deer National Park. I participated in a camera trap study arranged by Snow Leopard Foundation and Islamabad Wildlife Management Board in Margalla Hills National Park. Immediately, after my education, I got an opportunity to work with the Pakistan Museum of Natural History, Islamabad, as a consultant where I participated in field surveys in different habitat types across Pakistan including Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Punjab. After that, I started serving at the University of Kotli as Visiting Lecturer in the department of Zoology and taught subjects related to wildlife and basic zoology. After some time, I joined Snow Leopard Foundation (SLF) as Research Assistant under Pakistan Snow Leopard and Ecosystem Protection Program. As part of this job, I conducted and managed camera trap studies and ungulate surveys as well as community consultation in the Snow Leopard landscape in the Himalayan Region. After swerving there for more than half a year I switched to Hagler Bailly Pakitan where I joined as Specialist Environmental Program (Biodiversity Specialist) and I am still working here for more than three years. As part of this job, I have participated in biodiversity-related surveys for aquatic and terrestrial biodiversity all across Pakistan as well as in Nepal. Most of these studies include the Environmental Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for major development projects including hydropower, solar, wind, and mining projects as well as monitoring and evaluation of projects and management plans. As part of these studies, I participate in data collection for fish, periphyton, macroinvertebrates, birds, and mammals. herpetofauna, riparian and terrestrial vegetation. Based on data collection and analysis, I have been working on the preparation of ESIAs, Critical Habitat Assessments, Biodiversity Action Plans, and Environmental Management Plans. I have also worked as a consultant for ecology baseline and impact assessment. I also have individual projects and participated in many training workshops as well.
