After a life-altering injury in 2012 left me quadriplegic, my career and personal interests took several transformative turns. Initially, I studied business at Douglas College to understand how to conceptualize and implement innovative ideas effectively. My passion for creativity led me to pursue art at Emily Carr University and Lasalle College, where I relearned how to express my ideas visually despite my physical limitations.My journey didn't stop there; I delved into 3D digital design and interior design, which were instrumental in understanding the principles of accessibility. These fields allowed me to design and construct products in a 3D digital space, overcoming the physical constraints imposed by my injury. This phase was crucial, as it bridged my artistic endeavors with practical applications in accessibility and product design.The transition from art to science was a natural progression driven by a desire to further enhance the quality of life for individuals with disabilities, including myself. Now, at BCIT, I am intending on studying Electro-Neurophysiology because of my interest in transcutaneous electrical spinal stimulation. My academic pursuits are focused on the intersection of human biology, science, and technology, with a particular emphasis on spinal cord injury research.This comprehensive educational background—from business to art, design, and now science—equips me with a unique perspective and expertise that I apply in my work as a professional artist, accessibility specialist, and research consultant. My goal is to continue innovating and pushing the boundaries of what is possible in disability technology, ensuring greater mobility and independence for those affected by spinal injuries.
