Now’s the time to grab your reading glasses and pop on a pair of fuzzy socks because I am about to tell you a little story about myself.15 years ago, I worked as an Assistant Manager at a valet company. One sunny afternoon – right about the time our lunch rush started – two of our valet captains called in sick, leaving us shorthanded and scrambling. Before I knew it, I was left to cover one of the valet booths. In the middle of running around, I noticed a brand-new Land Rover pull up and out stepped a tall, curly-haired man. At the end of our quick exchange, he unexpectedly gave me his business card and asked me if I’d like a job working for him.His name was Stuart Jeffries and the company was called Arbitech, a fast-growing tech company that formed in Laguna Beach and had just moved into a huge new office in Irvine. With a car like that, and the swagger to match, I didn’t have much hesitation around calling him to find out more about this opportunity. Although it was out of my comfort zone at the time, I was intrigued enough to at least take a chance. From the first day I stepped through the doors at Arbitech, I could sense that this was a driven, no-nonsense company with serious aspirations. Since I didn’t have much experience back then, I started at the bottom, boxing servers, handling RMAs, and tackling configurations.I worked my way up to Receiving Associate, then Receiving Manager, next an Assistant Product Manager, and now a Networking Product Manager. I believe the biggest factors behind my success at Arbitech are: problem solving skills, an unbeatable response time, and my go-getter attitude. On a personal note, I challenge myself to learn something new every day, which is likely how I have ended up managing the most product lines on the team despite previously having little to no exposure to many of them.Years after I first met him, I found out that Mr. Jeffries gave me his business card because saw my work ethic in action and respected how tight a ship I was running at the valet booth. He right away could tell that I would go above and beyond to contribute to his company, and for that I owe him a debt of gratitude.Oh, and by the way, Stuart is still my boss… and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Hear that, Stu?“We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.” - Walt Disney
